Or fuck that was good.
Baby's first kill blowing back in Dex's face, as it had to, not only for the poetry and the pain but for reinforcing the Dexter does have good instincts so it's sorta ok to root for him thing.
It was obvious that the taxidermist isn't the Ice Truck Killer, but that last line and Dex's last look were still perfect.
It's equally obvious that the doctor is the real Ice Truck Killer. If it wasn't by the studying in Paris of the human form it was by use of the word 'pieces' re his amputated mum. The dead eyes and staying close to the victim, just confirm it, in a truly magnificently fucked up and fair to the audience sort of way. And fits the Dexter's women have some pretty terrible judgement re the men in their lives, even when they're trying to do the right thing, be it Rita and not having Paul's ass carted off to jail for breach of the restraining order and Deb going for the Doctor over prickly Doakes. Yet they all still have agency. Just as the men do and fuck up just as badly.
It's all so good.
All the characters are being written as people, flawed, occasionally epically fucked up people of whatever gender or ethnic background. It's Miami as Miami with the full range of humanity, not a token anyone in sight. That's good writing. I hope other shows follow suit.
Especially in tying everything together as neatly as a packaged body part.
La Guerta being outplayed by the player on the politics front, even as she played Angel who played Deb, but doing it so you could see every side and how some of them did try and give back.
And the serial killer club - did anyone else have a Sandman-esque vision of Dex at the Serial Killers Convention? But seriously, that's how to do it. Not as a stupid shoutout to try and make the writers feel cool, but a thematic tie-in to the show and especially the episode. It was a convention. Baby Killer that blew all his chances. Dex making those silly little mistakes that could and presumably at some point will get him. The wrong serial killer who yet is still one, even as he's taking the headlines from the real thing. And Dex's dance partner and shadow double - the doctor, hiding in the perfect place in plain sight. Wibbles at the perfection of the structure and double wibbles at the great acting that's making this show so damned fucking good.
I'd say next one, please, but I almost don't want to. I'm savouring it just that much.
Sod, it, roll on next week.
Needs.

I *loved* that smile at the end. wow.
I need a Dex icon. hmm

I love that Dex is making mistakes and that as the stakes are so high, he can't afford to. It makes for great drama.
Deb is so being used. Poor Deb.
The smile was chillingly perfect.
Maybe the world's scariest bacon?

Such a fantastic show. I'm still watching Six Feet Under season 5 - a bit weird to shift from David to Dexter, but man, I love Michael C. Hall.

I never got into Six Feet Under, but he's really impressing me here.

The trailer guy was definitely not the guy, but I loved, loved, loved watching Dexter doubt himself through the episode. I think it's important that they established that he isn't perfect -- his normal emotionless outlook tends to make him look a little invincible.
Michael C. Hall is an amazing actor. It's a wonder that he can play both Dexter and David on Six Feet Under - both logical, but near polar opposites when it comes to impulsiveness and emotion.
I just caught up during the marathon they had last weekend and I think this is my new favorite show.

The human mistakes all come from emotion and that is just fascinating me.
