We were driving from Windhoek to Swakopmund in, I think it was 2001, and the only radio channel we could get the car to pick up was Radio Kudu, which is in Afrikaans. It mainly played a lot of *umpf umpf umpf* music that we didn't recognise, but it was fun. Suddenly we hear the familiar intro to Barbie Girl (*points to username*) but there was something slightly different about it. After a while we realised what it was. It was a cover. In Afrikaans. The young people in the car died laughing, while the older generation tried, and failed, to get the joke.

I spent the rest of that stay in Namibia trying to locate a copy of it. Sadly I never managed to find one. I still wish I had.

As the Namibia trip must have been. It's one of the places I'd like to go that I ahven't already done. Though I did drive around South Africa on my own, so I got a taste of the local music/cluture that way.

Namibia is awesome. Great people, incredibly diverse environment, good beer. My parents lived there for two years in the early noughties, so I was given the opportunity to spend some time (about six months) in the country. I love it.

You do have to go. It's such an odd place, a combination of Africa and Bavaria.

(Am envious of the South Africa drive. Sounds interesting and fun.)

I'd love to see Souselievi (which I'm sure I've spelt wrong) and the Skeleton Coast.

Bavaria gets into odd places. Bariloche in Argentina is chocolate box Bavaria in the Sotuh American lakes/mountains.

It was a fascinating trip:)
