Its darker than the first series and I'm not sure about the Princess Di arc but the shared universe other guy adds an interesting twist and the return to a harder edged Gene Hunt and a less flippant Alex worked. As does the usual mix of music, telly, news and place of the then and now variety. Rio and Stand and Deliver worked beautifully. I had the Grange Hill! moment and fun placing what looked like a Peabody Estate for the showdown and the what Soho is like now moment as well as the growth of feminism in the workplace reminder. SuperMac also has interesting possibilities for Alex-Gene tension.
