He's the author of Tom Jones.
He's his blind half-brother.
Together they fight crime!

In Hogarthian London.

With oodles of moral complexity, fascinating explorations of diverse London as it booms into modernity amid the luxury of the few and the desperation of the many - all without a police force - and some kick ass characters. No one's a saint. Our heroes can be both stone bastards and ruthlessly pragmatic as well as smart - and still allow a measure of mercy. Stories can break your heart with the tragedy and courage of the characters *looks at episode two* whilst keeping a lust for life amid all the death and horrors of everyday life that's very Hogarthian. Also of the period is the language, characters livelihoods and attitudes - for good and bad. The the show doesn't shy away from showing our heroes as anything other than of the period and is all the better for it as it lets it play with multiple layers of moral complexity, especially in the two part 3 and 4. The acting is also superb, led by Iain Glen and Ian McDiarmid, but supported by the other regulars and the case/social exploration of the week.

City of Vice - well worth watching and I hope we get a second season, because that was pretty bloody excellent.
